Your back office works out the cheapest

Plan & fees costs your own last 30 days of sales on every plan and marks the cheapest. Every shop starts on Free. Paid plans start once card payments are switched on.

Card processing comes off your share of each sale as its own line, at Mollie’s rate (1.2% + 20p for a UK card), the same way Etsy shops pay Etsy Payments. None of it comes to us.

Prices are in pounds sterling (GBP). Bifrost Development Ltd isn’t registered for VAT, so no VAT is added to our plans or fees.

How we worked it out

For Etsy

  • A listing fee of 20 US cents (about £0.15) for every sale, since Etsy renews a listing each time it sells.
  • The 6.5% transaction fee and the 0.48% UK regulatory fee, on the item and postage.
  • Etsy Payments at 4% + 20p for a UK bank account.
  • 20% VAT on Etsy’s seller fees, unless you’ve said you’re VAT registered. We left VAT off card processing, to be fair to Etsy.

We didn’t count the 15% Offsite Ads fee Etsy charges on orders that came from one of its adverts, or the set-up fee it charges some new shops. Both would make Etsy dearer.

For Handsold

  • Our share of the item and postage, and the plan’s monthly price.
  • Card processing at Mollie’s rate for a UK card, 1.2% + 20p. Business cards, cards from abroad, American Express and PayPal cost more (PayPal is 2.9% + 40p). It comes off your share as its own line and goes to Mollie, not to us.
  • If you refund an order, we give back our share of whatever you refund.

Etsy’s figures checked on 28 September 2026 and Mollie’s on 3 October 2026, from Etsy’s fees policy, Etsy Payments policy, the regulatory fee page and Mollie’s UK pricing.

Questions

Questions about fees

What does your share come off?
The item price and postage the buyer paid, after any discount, worked out on each order at your plan’s rate.
Who pays card processing?
You do, as Etsy shops pay Etsy Payments. We take every payment through Mollie, and what Mollie charges for your order comes off your share as its own line: 1.2% + 20p for a UK card, more for business and overseas cards, American Express and PayPal. None of it comes to us, and Mollie doesn’t give it back when you refund.
When do I get paid?
Every Monday. Your share of each order is held until you mark it as sent (downloads count once they’re delivered), then for 7 more days, so refunds and disputes can come out first. Then it goes to your own Mollie account, which pays it into your bank.
Who can sell?
Businesses and sole traders. Mollie checks who you are before your shop can take orders, so you’ll need to be registered as self-employed or as a business. It takes a few minutes from your back office, and Mollie may ask for ID and a self-assessment or Companies House document.
What happens when I refund someone?
We give back our share of whatever you refund, whether that’s the whole order or part of it.
Can I change plan?
Every shop starts on Free (5% of each sale). Paid plans start once card payments are switched on. From then you can move up or down from your back office, and the new share applies to orders paid from then on.
What do Maker and Studio add?
A smaller share of each sale, more AI help each month, and one choice. Your products show on the Handsold marketplace on every plan, and normally a buyer who finds one there sees it on our own product page and pays in our checkout. On Maker and Studio you can send them to your own shop’s product pages and checkout instead, in your shop’s own look. Everything else is the same on every plan.
Does a sale from the marketplace cost more?
No. Our share is the same whether a sale starts on the marketplace or in your own shop, and nobody can pay to be shown first.
Are there any other fees?
No listing fees, no renewal fees, no advertising fees and no set-up fee.
How do I pay?
Our share and the card processing come off each sale before it’s paid to you, so there’s never a bill for them. A paid plan’s monthly price comes out of your payouts too; in a month they don’t cover it, you pay that month by card. You can cancel a plan at any time. The details are in our terms for sellers.
Is anything being charged yet?
Not yet. Shops open once card payments are switched on, and nothing is charged before then.
