Your discountsLink to Your discounts
In your back office: DiscountsDiscounts lists every code and automatic offer, with what it does in a sentence, how many times it’s been Used (out of its limit, if it has one), its Dates, and an On switch.
The tabs sort them into All, Active, Scheduled, Off, Expired and Used up. A tab with nothing in it stays out of the way. Search by name or code.
Switching a discount off stops it working straight away, and keeps it, with everything it’s done, for when you want it back.
Making a discountLink to Making a discount
In your back office: New discountGo to Discounts and press New discount. The builder asks a few questions, and In a sentence writes out the discount as you go, so you see exactly what buyers get. Under it you see whether it’ll be live, and how it looks In the basket.
- Step 1: How do customers get it? With a code they type, or Automatically, with no code.
- Step 2: What do they get? Percentage off, Money off, Free delivery and Buy X, get Y.
- Step 3: What does it apply to? Everything, or chosen products, categories or collections.
- Step 4: Name it: what customers see in their basket.
- Step 5: Open More options if you want a minimum spend, a limit, dates or stacking. They’re all optional.
- Step 6: Press Create discount. Ctrl and S saves too (Cmd and S on a Mac).
Leave Switched on off to save it without it working yet.
With a code or automaticallyLink to With a code or automatically
- With a code: buyers type it in the basket or at checkout. Choose One code for everyone and type The code, or press Make one up. Capitals don’t matter to buyers. For a different code for each person, choose A unique code each.
- Automatically: it comes off by itself once the basket qualifies, with no code to type. Automatic offers for everyone also show on your shop’s Offers page while they’re running.
What buyers getLink to What buyers get
- Percentage off: type how much, or tap one of the quick picks.
- Money off: an amount that comes off once per order, shared across the items it applies to. It never takes an item below nothing.
- Free delivery: no postage to pay. It only matters when something needs posting, and it always works alongside other discounts.
- Buy X, get Y: see Buy X, get Y.
Buy X, get YLink to Buy X, get Y
Choose Buy X, get Y, then fill in Buy, Get and At: free, half price, or a part off. For every set in the basket, the cheapest items are the ones that come off, and the builder writes out an example so you can check it.
What it applies toLink to What it applies to
What does it apply to? has Everything, Products, Categories and Collections. Pick products from the list, or tap the categories or collections you want. Free delivery always covers the whole order, so this step isn’t there for it.
More options and a minimumLink to More options and a minimum
More options holds the optional settings: a minimum, who can use it and how often, dates, and stacking. It says what’s set when it’s closed.
Is there a minimum? has No minimum, A minimum spend (counted before any discount comes off) or A number of items. For a discount on chosen things, only those things count towards the number.
Who can use it, and how oftenLink to Who can use it, and how often
Who can use it, and how often? can be Everyone, First-time customers, Returning customers, Newsletter subscribers or Only certain people. For Only certain people, list their email addresses, one per line.
An automatic offer for some people only shows up once they’ve typed their email at checkout, so the shop can check it’s them.
- Limit how many orders can use it: once that many orders have used it, it’s used up.
- Limit how many times each person can use it: often once.
If a limited code is down to its last use and two people check out at once, only one of them gets it. The other is told before they pay.
When it’s onLink to When it’s on
When is it on? has Starts: Straight away or On a date, and Ends: Keep going or On a date, each with a time. Times are in your shop’s time zone, and an end of 23:59 means it works right up to the end of that day.
A discount that hasn’t started yet sits under Scheduled, and one that’s ended moves to Expired.
With other discountsLink to With other discounts
- Keep it on its own: if they have others too, they get whichever saves them the most.
- Let it stack: it adds together with other discounts that stack.
Best deal wins: the checkout adds up all the discounts that stack, compares that with each one kept on its own, and gives the buyer the biggest saving. Free delivery works alongside everything either way.
Naming it, and the Offers pageLink to Naming it, and the Offers page
- What customers see in their basket: filled in from your choices, and yours to change. Their order and receipt use it too.
- A line about it: shown with the offer on your shop’s Offers page.
- Show this code on the Offers page: for a code anyone can use. Leave it off for codes you only want to share privately, like in a newsletter.
Automatic offers for everyone show on the Offers page by themselves while they’re running.
A unique code for each personLink to A unique code for each person
For a craft fair, a giveaway or cards in your parcels, choose With a code, then A unique code each. Fill in How many codes (up to 1,000 at a time) and, if you like, Start each code with, such as FAIR. Every code gets the same offer and works on one order only. They leave out letters and numbers that are easy to mix up, like O and 0, so they’re easy to type from a card.
Once it’s saved, the discount’s page has a Unique codes panel: how many are made, used and still to use, a few to copy, downloads of the Unused codes or All codes, and Make more codes with the same offer.
Seeing who used itLink to Seeing who used it
Each discount’s page has Orders that used it: each order, the customer, what it saved them and, for unique codes, which code they typed. It shows the latest 50, and Download gives you every one as a spreadsheet.
Copying or deleting a discountLink to Copying or deleting a discount
On a discount’s page, Duplicate makes a copy, switched off until you’re ready. Delete is there only while nobody has used it. Once it’s been used on an order it stays for your records: switch it off instead.
A welcome code for new subscribersLink to A welcome code for new subscribers
A welcome code is set in Automations, on the Welcome email. Make the discount first, then type its code there and press Save.
It checks the code for you. That code is live means all’s well. If the code is switched off or ended, or there’s no discount with that code yet, it says so, with a link to fix it, so nobody gets a dud.
