Delivery has two parts: Prices and zones (where you post to and what it costs) and When orders go out (the days you post). Your shop started with two zones, so check they’re right for you.
A zone is a group of countries with its own delivery options, like United Kingdom and Rest of the world. Each buyer sees the options for the first zone that includes their country. Add Everywhere else to a zone to cover any country that isn’t in another one.
- Step 1: Press Add a zone and give it a name.
- Step 2: Press Pick countries and tap the countries it covers.
- Step 3: Press Add a delivery option, fill it in and press Add option.
- Step 4: Press Save changes.
If your own country isn’t in any zone, buyers there can’t order anything that needs posting. Downloads always work.
Delivery optionsLink to Delivery options
In your back office: Prices and zonesEach option has a Name buyers see at checkout, like Royal Mail 2nd Class, an optional Description underneath it, and a Price (0 for free). Switch off Available to hide an option without deleting it. Options show in the order you put them: use the arrows to move one up or down. Nothing changes in your shop until you press Save changes.
Prices by weight or basketLink to Prices by weight or basket
In your back office: Prices and zonesWhen is it offered? has three choices. Always is for every order. By weight only offers it when the parcel weighs between From (grams) and Up to (grams). By basket only offers it when the basket total is in the range. Leave a box empty for no limit.
Make one option for each band. If there’s a gap between bands, the zone warns you, because a parcel in the gap couldn’t check out. Weights come from your products: see Product weights.
The Royal Mail size guideLink to The Royal Mail size guide
In your back office: Prices and zonesOn a By weight option, open Royal Mail sizes and pick one to fill in the weights, and the name if it’s empty: Letter (up to 100 g), Large letter (up to 750 g), Small parcel (up to 2 kg) and Medium parcel (up to 20 kg).
It’s a guide to Royal Mail’s usual UK limits, not their prices, and the limits can change. Check their own size guide before you post.
How long it takesLink to How long it takes
In your back office: Prices and zonesUnder How long it takes, fill in At least and At most working days. Product pages and checkout use them for when things should arrive, after your posting days and any making time (how buyers’ dates are worked out).
Free deliveryLink to Free delivery
- Free on one option: set its Price to 0.
- Free over a certain spend: fill in Free over on a delivery option.
- Free with a code, or for some buyers: make a Free delivery discount. It works alongside other discounts.
Beside the zones, What a customer in a country would see lets you pick a Country, a Parcel weight (g) and a Basket total. It shows the options and prices they’d get, whether delivery would be free, or why they couldn’t check out. It uses your changes before you save.
Product weightsLink to Product weights
For prices by weight, give each product its weight in grams, packed, under More options, Stock, postage and sale price (or on each version). A parcel’s weight is everything in the basket added up. A product without a weight counts as the lightest band, and Prices and zones lists any that are missing.
Downloading your pricesLink to Downloading your prices
In your back office: Prices and zonesDownload prices at the top of Prices and zones gives you a spreadsheet with a row for each delivery option: its zone and countries, when it’s offered, its price, Free over, the days it takes and whether it’s available.
How soon you postLink to How soon you post
In your back office: When orders go outIn When orders go out, How soon you post is for things you have ready to go: The same day, The next working day, Within 2 working days, Within 3 working days or Within a week. Made-to-order pieces add their making time first.
Cut-off time is in your shop’s own time zone. An order in before it counts from that day, if it’s a day you post. An order after it counts from your next posting day.
Under Days you post, tick the days you post things. Most people post Monday to Friday, and you can tick Saturday or Sunday too. Product pages and checkout only promise posting on these days.
Under Bank holidays, choose England and Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and None, I post on bank holidays. Nothing goes out on those days, and the post doesn’t count them either. Each choice shows the next two coming up.
Usual making timeLink to Usual making time
In your back office: When orders go outUnder Making time, Usual making time is in working days. It’s used for made-to-order products that don’t have their own making time, and it comes before your posting days. Made to order has more.
Press Add days away and pick the First day away and Last day away, with What for if you like. Nothing is made or posted on those days, and buyers see later dates while you’re away. Remember to press Save changes.
Holiday mode adds its own entry here, called Holiday mode, and takes it off again when it ends.
Checking the datesLink to Checking the dates
In your back office: When orders go outBeside the settings, What a buyer in your country sees shows the dates for something you have ready and for a made-to-order piece, if they ordered now with your cheapest delivery option at home. The next three weeks shows which days you post. Both use your changes before you save.
