You sign in with your email and a password, or an email link. Sign-in and security, under your initials at the top right, is where you change those and add the optional extras that keep your shop safe even if your password gets out.

How safe your sign-in isLink to How safe your sign-in is
In your back office: Sign-in and securityThe top of Sign-in and security shows your Password, Passkeys and Two-factor sign-in, with a tick beside each one you have. Passkeys and two-factor are optional, but each makes your shop safer.
A passkey lives on your phone, computer or a security key. There’s nothing to type and nothing anyone can trick you into giving away.
- Step 1: In Passkeys, press Add a passkey.
- Step 2: Name it, like the device it’s on, and put your password in to confirm it’s you.
- Step 3: Press Continue, then confirm with your fingerprint, face, screen lock or security key when your browser asks.
Add one on each device you use. Rename or remove one from its row. Next time, press Sign in with a passkey on the sign-in page.
Two-factor sign-in with an authenticator appLink to Two-factor sign-in with an authenticator app
In your back office: Sign-in and securityTwo-factor sign-in asks for a code as well as your password, so a leaked password on its own can’t get anyone in. It’s optional, and you can turn it off again here.
- Step 1: Under Two-factor sign-in, press Set up an authenticator app and confirm your password.
- Step 2: Open a free authenticator app on your phone and add a new account. Scan the code on screen, or type the setup key.
- Step 3: Type the 6-digit code the app shows and press Turn on.
- Step 4: Save your backup codes (below).
From then on, signing in asks for the code your app shows. It changes every 30 seconds.
When you turn on the authenticator app you get 10 backup codes. You only see them once, so press Copy codes or Download as .txt and keep them somewhere safe, like a password manager, then press I’ve saved them.
To use one, choose Use a backup code at the second step. Each works once. Make new backup codes gives you a fresh 10 and stops the old ones working.
Under Email code, press Turn on email codes and confirm your password. We email you a code to check it works; type it and press Turn on. Each code lasts 5 minutes.
It’s better than nothing, but anyone who gets into your email gets past it, so an authenticator app or a passkey is safer. If the button is greyed out, email codes aren’t available yet.
Change Name under Your name and press Save name. It’s what the people you invite to help see, and what the Activity log shows beside your changes.

If you can’t get a code and you’ve lost your backup codes, email Handsold at the address shown under Two-factor sign-in. We check it’s really you, then turn two-factor off so you can sign in with your password and set it up again.
A passkey on a second device, or backup codes kept somewhere safe, saves you this wait.
