Categories and collections

Shelves for browsing, and themed groups you pick by hand or let rules fill.

A category is the shelf a product lives on, like Mugs or Wall prints, and each product has one. A collection is a themed group, like Summer favourites or Gifts under a tenner, and a product can be in as many as you like.

  1. Step 1: Go to Categories and press New category.
  2. Step 2: Type its Name. The Web address is made from it, like /shop/mugs.
  3. Step 3: Add an image, and a Description if you like: a short line on the category page.
  4. Step 4: Press Add category. Then put products in it from each product’s Where it shows in the shop, or tick several on Products and use Edit.

Search listing holds your own title and description for search engines. Each category shows how many products are in it: press the number to see them.

When you make or edit a category, choose where it Sits inside. Leave it as Top level for a main category. Sub-categories sit indented under theirs on Categories, and the product editor lists them like Prints › Animals.

Order and deletingLink to Order and deleting

Grab the dots on the left of a category and drag it up or down. The new order is saved straight away.

To delete one, press its bin. An empty category goes straight away. One with products asks where to move them, or leaves them with no category, and its sub-categories move up a level. Its page in the shop stops working.

  1. Step 1: Go to Collections and press New collection.
  2. Step 2: Give it a Name, and a Description if you like.
  3. Step 3: Under Products, keep Hand-picked and press Add products. Tap each one you want, then Done.
  4. Step 4: Drag them into order: the first ones show first. Choose Published under Visibility, then press Publish collection.

You can also add a product to hand-picked collections from its own Where it shows in the shop, or tick several on Products and use Add to a collection.

Smart collectionsLink to Smart collections

Under Products, choose Smart, then add rules. Each rule picks by Tag (your search words), Category, Product type, Price or Name. Choose whether products must match every rule or any rule.

As you type, it shows how many products match and a few of them. Price rules use the lowest price, the one shown as “from” in the shop. Matches update whenever you save a product, so new things that fit join by themselves.

A collection’s look and visibilityLink to A collection’s look and visibility

  • Hero image: the wide picture at the top. About 2400 by 1350 pixels works best.
  • A small line above the name: like Just landed. Some shop designs show it.
  • Colour: some shop designs tint the collection’s page with it.
  • Google and the web address: its address and how it looks in search results. Old links keep working if you change it.
  • Visibility: Draft hides it from the shop and Published shows it. Feature it puts it in the featured collections on the home page.

Delete collection, in the More panel, takes the group away and leaves the products as they are. A discount for that collection stops applying.

On Collections, grab the dots on the left of a collection and drag it up or down. The order is saved straight away. Each one shows whether it’s hand-picked or smart, how many products it has, and whether it’s published.
