Pages are the things people look for before they buy: who you are, delivery, returns. The Journal is for stories: how something was made, a new range, a peek at your desk.
The pages your shop opens withLink to The pages your shop opens with
Every shop opens with ten pages, already written and published: About us, FAQs, Delivery, Returns & refunds, Instant downloads, Contact, Accessibility, Terms of sale, Privacy policy and Cancel an order. They’re written to be true for most small UK shops, with your shop’s name, email and returns settings filled in.
They’re yours to change. Read each one through, and make it sound like you.
Pages with a padlock are linked from around the shop, like checkout or the small print, so they can be edited but not deleted, and their address stays the same.
Writing a pageLink to Writing a page
Press New page, give it a Title and write in Page content. You can add headings, lists, links and pictures.
Page status is Draft (only you and your team can see it) or Published (anyone can, once you save). Press Create page, then Save changes as you go, or Ctrl S.
A new page isn’t linked from anywhere yet. Add it to the footer, or to a menu, so people can find it.
Where it’s linked, and taking a page offlineLink to Where it’s linked, and taking a page offline
Where it’s linked on a page lists every place in your shop that links to it: menus, sections, other pages and posts, and products.
- Deleting a page says where it’s linked first, because those links will stop working.
- Pages with a padlock can’t be deleted. Switching one to Draft asks you to confirm with Yes, unpublish it, because the links to it would show “page not found”.
Legal pages kept in stepLink to Legal pages kept in step
Your returns, terms, cancellation and privacy pages start from your returns and legal settings. Change a setting later and the page stays as you wrote it, so Your settings on the page checks it still agrees.
If something’s out of step, like a different number of days to change your mind, it says what. Change the words yourself, or press Use the standard wording to start again from the standard wording with your settings filled in. Nothing changes in your shop until you save.
Pages in your own words are yours to keep right: the check only looks for the sentences the standard wording uses.
Summary, address and searchLink to Summary, address and search
Under More options on a page: Summary, a sentence or two for search results and link previews; Page address, the end of its web address; and a Search title and Search description with a preview.
Leave the search fields blank and the page’s title and summary are used, with your title pattern.
Changing a page’s or post’s addressLink to Changing a page’s or post’s address
Change a published page’s Page address, or a post’s Post address, and links to the old one keep working: they bring people to the new address. The page lists its old addresses underneath.
Padlocked pages keep their address, because the shop links to them.
Duplicating a page or postLink to Duplicating a page or post
Press Duplicate at the top of a page or post. The copy is a draft, with “(copy)” after its title and its own address, and it stays out of the footer until you add it.
Journal postsLink to Journal posts
Press New post, give it a Title and write in The post. It tells you the reading time as you go.
- Cover image shows at the top of the post and on the journal page.
- When people can read it: Draft, Published or Scheduled. A published post shows its Date on the post, and the journal lists the newest first.
- Under More options: a Summary, Tags, the Post address and search details.
Scheduling a postLink to Scheduling a post
Choose Scheduled under When people can read it, then pick Publish on, in your shop’s time zone. It stays hidden from the shop until then, and goes live by itself.
The journal list shows it as Scheduled with when it goes live. Publish it now instead puts it live straight away.
