Settings, downloads and search engines

Settings puts everything in four groups:

• The essentials: what every shop needs. Start here.
• How the shop looks: your template, your home page and the bar along the top.
• Selling: checkout, emails, returns and your profiles.
• Advanced: extra controls most shops never need to touch.

Each card says how things stand, with a label such as To do, Worth doing or Needs a look where something needs you. Under Your team, history and data are Staff, Activity log and Download your shop, for whoever is allowed to open them.

If you sell files, Settings, Downloads sets the rules for new orders. Anything already bought keeps the rules it was bought with.

• Download limit: Unlimited, or Set a limit and choose Downloads per file.
• Link expiry: Never expire, or Expire after a number of Days after purchase.
• Email customers about new versions: when you upload a new version of a file, everyone who bought it gets a short note.

Most shops leave downloads unlimited and never expiring, because people lose files and change phones. A limit only helps if links are being passed round. More about selling files is in Digital downloads.
